Alopecia
Alopecia is a medical condition that causes excessive hair loss in different parts of the body, including the scalp, beard, and eyelashes. This condition can have several causes, from genetics to hormonal imbalances and autoimmune disorders or even from certain medications. Studies have reported that people suffering from alopecia often demonstrate a lower quality of life, self-esteem, and psychological well-being.
The Asia Pacific alopecia solutions are estimated to grow at the highest CAGR of 10.77% by 2028 (Source: Market Data Forecast). This is due to the rapidly increasing male population, stress-related factors, unhealthy food habits, and pollution concerns. But one key reason stands out: consumers’ expanding awareness about hair loss treatment (Source: Mintel).
Many studies and trials have been conducted to treat alopecia, but there is a limited choice of vehicles that are simultaneously compatible with APIs used to treat alopecia. For this reason, Fagron has developed TrichoConcept™, formulated vehicles to help maintain the hair system's physiology.
Skinification of hair
The stigma surrounding scalp issues and hair loss that was once considered a taboo is now decreasing (Source: Mintel). Consumers are increasingly searching for and discussing targeted solutions for their skin and hair needs. Looking into the keywords, 'healthy' and 'treatment' have become key parts of the conversation surrounding scalp care. Consumers apprehend that maintaining a healthy scalp helps to promote hair growth – scalp care is an extension of skin care.
The rise of the skinification of hair trend is growing as consumers start to understand that what we put on our hair and scalp matters. Between 2020 and 2023, scalp-related haircare launches are particularly active in Asia. When consumers want to purchase a new shampoo or conditioner, 97% say they seek specific benefits to address their hair concerns (Herich, 2022).
In Thailand, 58% of consumers say they would be interested in using scalp care products. One in five consumers in China say they would pay more for shower products that solve specific skin issues.
The TrichoConcept™ line by Fagron
To fulfill individual needs and optimize health outcomes, Fagron developed the TrichoConcept™ line - Fagron patented phytocomplex specially developed for the use in personalized alopecia treatment, the first global line of multifunctional compounding vehicles with TrichoTech™ technology – a 100% natural essential oils extracted from carefully chosen plants selected by their chemotypes.
For local (topical) approach towards alopecia treatments, as important as the chosen APIs or DCIs, the vehicle where it is incorporated plays a crucial role in achieving successful therapeutic outcomes. Adequately formulated vehicles can help maintain the hair system's physiology. Therefore, topical treatments can be positively affected, as a healthy scalp may present a superior capacity for APIs absorption.
In the spotlight this month, we dive into Fagron TrichoConcept™ vehicle.
TrichoConcept™ vehicles were developed especially for formulations used in alopecia treatments, focusing on maintaining the physiology of the BSS hair system (Bulb, Scalp and Shaft), making it more receptive to APIs. The combination of vehicles from TrichoConcept™ ensures adequate scalp preparation to receive the treatment, maintaining the proper surface pH, hydration and stimulating local blood circulation. You will be delighted to know that the vehicles are widely used, backed by scientific evidence and studies, and free of controversial ingredients.
The different TrichoConcept™ vehicles comprehend exclusive characteristics that can be grouped into two different categories,
- TrichoOil™, TrichoWash™, TrichoCond™, that fall under cleansing and care products
- TrichoSol™, TrichoFoam™, TrichoCream™ that fall under treatment of specific areas
